I'm so sick of the Red Sox... I am officially a temporary Los Angeles Dodgers fan... went down to City Hall yesterday and got my permit... For the next few weeks...I'm all about Dodger Blue...except on Sundays...then I'm all about BIG BLUE.... the GEEE MEN...

But as far as baseball is concerned... Go Dodgers...Go Joe Torre...and I never thought I'd EVER say this:

I've been rehearsing with some of the cast and the producers of THE AFTER-LYFES. We are gearing up to shoot the weekend of the 18-19. They actually asked me to keep my schedule loose for that Thursday thru Tuesday...

No problem. This character is pretty similar to myself...not a stretch by any means...which is why I feel pretty well connected .

I'm back to trying to get CATCH 7 shot this weekend. I went out yesterday looking for a restaurant/diner location for a scene I wrote that involves the characters EDBO and SQUIB. EDBO and SQUIB are two crime family henchmen...or lackeys...who are trailing one of the main characters... at this point just to keep an eye on him.

I went in to Roccos Pizza on Vermont. Its a little, New York style pizzeria...not far from my house. I've noticed that thus place is totally empty on Sundays...probably bescause its across the street from LA CITY COLLEGE... aint no college kids around to eat pizza on a Sunday... aint no college kids anywhere near that campus on a Sunday. Anway, the guy at the counter gave me an email address and sent them an email:

My name is James Huffman. I'm producing a new web series titled CATCH.

I stopped in at the Vermont location this morning and I asked them if they ever allowed student or no budget filmmakers to shoot there...he said you "might" be open to discussing it...and gave me your email.

I am looking for very casual diner/restaurant to shoot a 2 page scene this coming Sunday, October 12th and the Roccos on Vermont would be ideal. I can arrange my shooting schedule so that we would be in the restaurant for no more than 3 hours and we could get it all done during your slowest hours, so as not to interfere with business.

I could also buy lunch for the crew before or after we shoot. It would be a small crew, 2 actors and maybe 4-5 crew members. AND...if it helps...we could use an establishing shot of Roccos to help promote the restaurant and we could include links or positive write ups in all our blogs.

So...yeah... I'm hoping we could work something out.

ROCCO repsonded later that evening.... "NO DICE VANILLA ICE"

Thank you for your interest, unfortunately right now we can not accomodate filming in any of our locations.

Oh well... I still have a few location in mind...I will hit them up today.

I went over to meet with Paul, our Indie City chief editor, and looked at a rough cut of CATCH 3. I loved 75% of it...hated 25% of it... its a long story...but the all the original footage we shot for this episode looks great...all the inserts or "pick-up" footage we got later...looks like shit... so its going to be a challenge...but I asked Paul to get creative... do what he can to disguise the bad footage.... I guess we'll see...should have a another cut ready by the start of next week...then I will have a sound design guy work on it... then HOPEFULLY... CATCH 3 will ready for release Oct 17-ish.

Oh yes...one more thing....

I git fired by HINT on Sunday night... which is more of an inconvenience than a traumatic event... they hired a new sales manager a few weeks ago and he and I were just NOT seeing eye to eye... so he inevitably got me canned... dick... it's fine, really. I was kind of secretly wishing I would get the opportunity to move on...so I guess I got what I wanted..

Anyway... I'm on the move...taking meetings...working shit out... looking for work...reaching out to promo companies... probably do alot more background work....and I'm pushing these CATCH episodes thru the post process... Oh and I'm selling my body for cash... as well as all my roommates stuff... Its all good...

MEETINGS: We need to focus our energy on pre-production/production of CATCH, THE NOBODIES, new scripts to be pitched, and any sketches that are ready for production.
Development is for Development meetings not for General meetings. Have scripts ready by the time we have our regular/general meetings so we can read, gather cast & crew, lock down locations, and review shot lists. CATCH - new episodes need to be knocked out by July/August.

Monthly Film Project

Hey guys and gals,

As most of you are aware we are going to begin the Monthly Film Project in September. The idea is that we shoot one short film per month for an entire year and at the end of the year we throw a kick-ass party to screen the films and celebrate.

The problem, as we discussed at last night's meeting, is that we don't have any scripts. I've written an email to send out the rest of the world to solicit scripts but i thought we should contact our friends and family first. I've included my email down below, feel free to cut and paste and send it to anyone you know who might have a script. encourage them to send it to their friends.

Also as we discussed last night, all the scripts will come to me and I will send them out to anyone interested in being a reader. If you want to volunteer to be a reader, let me know and I'll tell you more about that then.

Short Film Scripts Needed

We are a group of actors and directors who write out of necessity called Indie City Entertainment (I.C.E.). Until now, our primary focus has been on new media, creating short content and web series designed for broadcast on the Internet.

Starting in September we will begin an aggressive short film series, where we plan to shoot one short film per month for a year. This is where you come in.

We are looking for scripts that are 20 minutes or less with minimal locations, and if we could utilize a lot of our actors in it that would be great too.

We are interested in building relationships with writers and growing together. If you don't have anything written yet but would be interested in writing for us, please let me know. We meet on a regular basis and would love to bring in a writer for that purpose.

I wanted to express how much I was encouraged by all the participation in our first truly group effort: the 48-Hour Film Project.

Yes, we’ve shot several episodes of "Catch" (some of them more than once). We’ve shot an episode of "Armguard" and an installment of "Miss South Carolina on…", but all of these were individual efforts spearheaded by individuals.

The 48hrFP was the first thing that Indie City Entertainment (ICE) had entered as a group. And we all showed up as a group and created a project.

So I wanted to take this time to thank all of you who made the commitment to be there when it counted. Thanks again, Eric.

A former kingpin of the criminal underworld and a notorious sociopath, he has demonstrated enough rehabilitation to obtain an early release. Now what? The only real family he's got his is daughter Maggie and Mike hasn't spoken to her in 25 years. He desperately wants to be a part of her life again. He wants to become a productive member of society and get to know his little girl.

JEANETTE : Jerry's mom, Caucasian female, 45-55; Mom is a sweet, simple woman; Always thrilled to see her only son Jerry. She wishes he would stop by more often. A desperate optimist, Mom doesn't seem to know that her son is a serial killer. Or does she? She IS the boy's mother. We introduce JEANETTE with a CU of Mom dumping a hearty portion of scrambled eggs onto Jerry's plate as they discuss his most recent date, a picnic that she helped him put together.

Last weekend, the Indie City team participated in our first 48 hour film festival.

GENRE: DETECTIVE/COP
CHARACTER: Ronda Donellson, GAME Host
PROP: 3 or more potatoes
LINE OF DIALOGUE: Leave it to me, I'm a professional.

On Friday, James, Eric, and Chris went to the Kick Off and receieved our elements.

Then they met up with Anne, Heidi, Tom, Ben, and Ashley to brainstorm.

Overnight, THE PLAYING FIELD script was completed and production began in Burbank.

Jim played Detective Clifton James, while Anne Judson-Yager portrayed Ronda, appearances by Heidi, Chris, and Ashley were also made. Featuring the direction of Eric Jones and editing of Paul Kim, our quasi Film Noir piece was a blast to shoot.

Special thanks to the rest of our fantastic crew yet to be mentioned in this blog - Heather McHugh, Heather McGonigal, and Stephen Schaffold.

We had a very successful event on Thursday, June 5. The night was hopping, and Indie City was in full swing. Our screenings provide a fantastic outlet for creative individuals to come together to meet, relax, enjoy fellow artists' work, and network to build more projects. The Indie City crew came together on Sunday and knocked out Episode one of CATCH, the first of many projects developed by the brilliant collective continuum. The weather over the weekend was great. ArmguardF shoot evaluation
- James & Kristin did a great job location scouting – perfect set – Glendale security office.
- Ashley picked out wardrobe.
- Stephen & Ashley set up lights.
- Leetal’s camera was charged all day but it didn’t take the charge when we got to set, so we weren’t able to shoot.
- Ashley: talent (particularly talent outside of ICE) call time should be an hour after crew call time. I was the first person to arrive on set and had really just dropped by to help out since I didn’t think I would be able to make it originally. We should have a breakdown of scheduling, cast and crew positions and synopsis of the script as well as a shot list with the full script handy and available through the Indie City google group so anyone can access it before arriving on set. We should be comfortable and can be casual since we know the ICE routines but we always need to be prepared and professional (especially around outside talent or crew).
- If somebody calls in sick, they need to find a replacement to work for them. (See Contact List)

OLD BUSINESS

- SYNERGY agency, Commercial workshop already helped him land a callback in a recent audition, running cookie booth @ roller derby

· Evan Kilgore - wrapped 2 contracts for upcoming projects, 2nd book will be published this summer

· Ashley Cozine - portrayed lead actress in "Trust Issues" film by Studio Trifusion - film is getting closer to being finished, currently being scored by Cause & Effect artist

· Brandon - actor, found out his alma matter AMDA is now offering a Bachelor's Degree so he's looking into the program.

· Seth - Landmark Education, workshop inspired him

· Leetal - finishing film, got internship at FilmRights

· Paul (new to ICE) - currently a Psychiatry Intern in San Diego, has worked in theater, screenwriter/director going in the direction of medical drama,

· Stephen - manager will hopefully be attending ICE meetings and getting involved soon, job at ArcLight taking up his life, loves NYU

The Exquisite Corpse Film Experiment
A South By Southwest Film/Interactive panel & Film project

Tag, You're It! is a filmmaking experiment that explores creative collaboration.

In 1925 the Surrealists invented an art experiment/game called the exquisite corpse, or Le Cadavre Exquis. In it a group of artists collaboratively created artworks. It started as a word game in which each participant would write a phrase, fold the
paper to conceal part of it and pass it on to the next player. This
process started as a game, and was adopted by the Surrealists and
Dadaists as a way to make art. The participant artist fights against
the chaos that the form imposes on her, and tries to make a coherent
whole.

Tag, You Are It! is a project that explores how the exquisite corpse experiment could be applied to film making. In 2008 a group of film makers will come together to create an exquisite corpse film, collaboratively creating a feature film. Each
team will create a 4-5 minute segment on film or video. When they are
finished they will pass the last minute of their film to the next team,
along with a collection of headshots of the actors involved, and a prop
or object featured in their segment. No other information will change
hands. The next team must incorporate one of these elements into their
piece and will have 2 weeks to write, cast, shoot, and edit their
segment. The final film will be submitted to the 2009 South By
Southwest film festival.

The teams will span the spectrum of story creators. Traditional film
makers-both narrative and documentary, conceptual video artists,
playwrights, animators-all are fair game. A website will track the
creation of each piece, showcasing behind the scenes footage, each
segment's final minute, as well as information about the filmmakers,
and an on-going production blog. This website will go live shortly.

Tag, You're It! will be kicked off at the 2008 South By Southwest Film/Music/Interactive festival. A March 11th
panel will discuss the challenges presented by collaborative story
creation. Issues of ownership, creative control, traditional story
structure, and what happens to all of these when they are shattered by
an arbitrary set of rules that mandate surrendering control.

Otherwise known as Indie City Entertainment... I.C.E! (Ay See Eeee)

Welcome....

A few thoughts...

1) Those interested in coordinating a shoot for head shots and character
shots...hit me back so I can get a head count and we'll put that in motion.

2) Those who want to read/audition next week and you do not yet have
sides....hit me back ASAP and I'll send something over.

3) KEEP YOUR EYES AND EARS OPEN for opportunities... such events that we, as
a group can take advantage of... short film contests, extreme film making
challenges, short play festivals, screenplay competitions etc... Those are
places where we can build the brand...make a name for ourselves.

4) Please engage in the practice of sharing information...post it here...if
you catch wind of a casting, of work (Acting, production, whatever),
availability of an apartment... If you are privy to some good gig or
opportunity and it doesn't directly effect YOU...don't sleep on it...IF YOU
SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING...spread the wealth...support each other, take
care of each other...what comes around goes around.

5) NEXT WEEK.... I think we will skip the circle next week. We are going
start the meeting off with Kristin Downey's actors impression/casting type
workshop. We will be filling out worksheets that will enable each us to get
a better understanding of our we are perceived, how other people see us and
how people would cast us.

After that we will start the auditions for CATCH (Still a working title) and
that should keep us busy for the remainder of the evening.

6) And lastly... I had an idea for our first shooting day and I think it
will work rather nicely. We put together a "mockumentary" based on the birth
of our group. We shoot a semi-scripted brainstorming session at one of our
meetings and that session suddenly morphs into a mosaic of freehand
filmmaking.... a stream of consciousness sort of thing. We shoot a hodge
podge of concepts ..short sketches, actors slates, the "Jam on it" lip synch
piece, the freestyle at the water cooler...and maybe some other 30-45 second
quick hits...like a mini-scene or two...and we've got a nice Indie City
orientation video....maybe even use Greg Adair and his infomercial skills...

So...creative people...writers...anyone...please feel free to jot down some
ideas...especially some 30-45 second scene ideas...make sure they are
relatively easy to shoot...and lets bang it out.

First Meeting

On Monday, November 12, 2007 the first Indie City Entertainment (a collective whose members migrated from New York City organizations such as the Professional Actors Collective [ProActIve] and Veer West Productions [now Studio Trifusion in Seattle]) meeting was held.
